a whole new Adventure...

Today I drove 5 minutes, got the kids out of the car, got David settled and drove away without him. It was a little strange, but once Lynn and I were in the car, it wasn't quite as hard. Today David started Pre-Kindergarten. There is now a part of his world that I can't watch, or protect him from. He goes and plays and talks to friends and brings homework back with him, and (so far) mentions most of what goes on. But there are now 7 and half hours of each week where I am not an active part of his life. It's a good thing, a growing slowly more independent kind of a thing. But the momma part of my soul misses his incessant chatter on that 5 minute drive back home. And my tiny sweet little Lynn just hates that she can't stay there with him, she is so eager to grow up and leave me already. This mothering business is hard work, and sometimes it's a little hard on the heart. My favorite part of the day, the bright spot that made my heart float lighter than air? When, even after he was settled in and playing with homemade play-dough, I said good-bye and waved to him, he jumped up from his chair and raced over to give me a hug and a kiss good-bye. Ahh... maybe I will survive pre-K after all.
I get a mug shot with David and he signs himself in...
All done with his first home work assignment! We did it together and then built a big train track in the living room during Lynn's nap :) It was nice to just hang out together for a little while :)

Arch Cape Adventure

The kids and I had a blast visiting the Arch Cape beach house, along with Grandma, Great Grandpa and Great grandma Ruth. The kids got some spoiling and we all enjoyed having the ocean right out the door.
There was quite a lot of rain at the beginning, but it simply highlighted the majesty and power of God's amazing ocean.
The kids loved feeding the birds after every meal and Lynn sqealed every time she saw the lookout seagull outside :) David played and wrote his name in the sand. We missed having Jonathan around, and are looking forward to the end of March and his busy season at work. It was a fantastic visit and the kids impressed me with good behaviour ont both the drives to amd from the beach. Can't wait for lots of adventures this summer!
God Bless :)

Then came the ice...

After our fun, family friendly snow, came the ice... the snow stopped coming in soft white flakes and instead came down in sheets of freezing rain that clung to everything. It coated and stuck to all it touched, clinging and growing, it transformed the world into a strange icy wonderland. At first it was just strange, then it was beautiful and then it became scary... the weight of the ice pulled branches from trees and sealed the car doors shut. It coated the electrical wires and when the tree branches fell they pulled down the power lines and then the lights went out. The house grew cold; we chipped the ice from the car and drove till we found power and a hot meal. We made it to Auburn and luckily David LOVES Red Robin, so he enjoyed lunch. We played at the kids play area in the Supermall until they too, lost power. Once we were home again we BBQ'd hot dogs in the snow, and then we decided that it was too cold, too dark to keep the kids in the house, so we left, praying we wouldn't slide off the road. We drove to Longview, watching the snow covered trees as we went. We stopped briefly in Centraila where there was power and filled the gas tank, then as we took the Longview exit the ice and snow was just gone. It looked like any other winter weekend, green and brown and wet. It was SO bright, the lights were gleaming and it just shouted 'safe haven' and when we were welcomed into Chris and Jan's house it was wonderfully WARM. Its a good weekend for a visit :) I hope you all stayed safe and warm this weekend! God Bless.

Adventures in the Snow!

What a wild ride! The snow started in soft gentle flakes that gave us just a few inches... we had fun, sledding walking to Starbucks and lobbing a few snowballs. Then there was MORE snow- we had between 4 and 6 inches and even more fun! David enjoyed the sledding and Lynn even enjoyed a few turns going down the hill.
